Dear friends of mathematics education,
We would like to enlist your assistance with a new project that mathematics education and mathematics faculty at Auburn University are designing to address the continuing shortage of mathematics teachers in our region. The Developing, Recruiting, and Empowering Alabama Mathematics (DREAM-Math) Teacher Project will encourage, recruit, and prepare motivated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) graduates and professionals in our region to become secondary (grades 6-12) mathematics teachers. |
DREAM-Math scholars would pursue a master’s degree in secondary mathematics education leading to certification as a mathematics teacher. The program will include at least 36 credit hours and can be completed in 4 semesters (14 months). The DREAM-Math teacher project is intended for STEM majors with at least 15 hours of mathematics courses completed, including Calculus I, II, and III. We anticipate the program beginning Summer 2022. We are also pursuing funding to provide support for candidates in the program.
We are currently trying to gauge the interest in a program of this kind. If you are aware of any potential candidates for the DREAM-Math program, or are willing to help recruit candidates or to provide other support for its development, please complete this survey — https://aub.ie/dream-math . Also, please forward the link to others who may be interested. Thanks for your help!
